Congress Passes Bill To Ban Revenge Porn And Deepfake Porn
'Take It Down Act' gets green light

On Monday, the House passed the bipartisan Take It Down Act in a 409-2 vote, sending it to President Trump, who is expected to sign it. The bill criminalizes the nonconsensual sharing of sexually explicit content, including A.I.-generated “deepfakes,” and requires platforms to remove such content within two days of notification.
Sponsored by Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), the bill targets revenge porn and aims to regulate tech companies better. It passed the Senate unanimously in February, boosted by support from Trump and former First Lady Melania Trump, who advocates for youth mental health.

Representative María Elvira Salazar (R-FL), who introduced the House version, called the measure essential to combat the online harassment of young girls. Deepfakes and nudification apps have increasingly harmed teens, especially girls, leading to bullying and emotional trauma.
Though the bill enjoys broad support, some free speech advocates warn it could be misused to suppress legitimate content. Only two Republicans—Reps. Eric Burlison and Thomas Massie opposed it, citing potential overreach.
The legislation marks Congress’s first major internet content law since 2018 and reflects growing bipartisan urgency to protect minors from online sexual abuse and digital manipulation.
